Let’s get your book the edit it needs

Thoughtful, transformative word witchery for writers who want their story to sing.

Imagine your readers up at ridiculous o’clock because they have to read one more chapter.

You love your idea. The thought of seeing a book with your name on it out there in the world gives you the good kind of butterflies. And perhaps a few nervous ones too, but that’s ok. You’ve got this.

Problem is, by the time you’ve finished your manuscript, you’re starting to go a little cross eyed. You’re so immersed in the story that you can’t get far enough away to be objective.

Is the pacing page-turningly good, or muddled? Would that character really say that? Does your prose grab your readers by the hearts the way you dreamed of?

You need someone to take an eagle-eyed view.

✨ Editing for indie and traditional authors

Whether you’re planning to self-publish or pursue traditional submission, my editing services are crafted to support you.  I’ve worked with indie authors who are ready to put their books into the world, and those looking for a final polish and honest advice before querying.

Why choose me?

I’ve been a professional wordsmith since 2008. Storytelling is my favourite language.

My background in copywriting, ghostwriting and brand coaching adds some unique skills to the mix:

  • I know how to make every word count. If you’re struggling with wordy prose, showing vs telling, or too much exposition I can show you how to fix it.

  • My brand voice coaching skills mean I’ve got a strong ear for your voice and how you express your ideas.

  • I’ve spent nearly two decades honing my ability to polish and polish again until prose gleams. If you need practical help reworking your sentences, I’ve got your back.

  • I’ve got a strong sense of what makes a book work. Flow and pacing are my jam!

  • I go beyond mechanics. I help your words reach people and forge the kind of emotional connection that keeps your book alive in their minds long after they turn the last page.

🧭 Not sure what kind of edit you need?

You’re not lost. You’re just looking for a map, and I’ve got one ready to guide you.

Go here for an easy guide to types of editing, and when a manuscript is ready for each.

My editorial services include:

Manuscript assessments

Need clarity on your story’s big picture?

Get a detailed, objective overview that shows you where your book shines, and where it needs a little work.

What’s included

You’ll get a kind, thorough, and easy-to-follow report of at least six pages that highlights:

  • What’s working well

  • What needs refinement

  • Plenty of suggestions and examples of ways to strengthen your book

  • Any plot tangles, pacing issues, or inconsistencies to untangle

  • Insights on character arcs, worldbuilding, and overall flow

This is a high-level, bird’s-eye view that’s ideal if you're feeling too close to the manuscript to see the shape clearly. I won’t mark up your document or make edits; instead, you’ll get gentle, grounded guidance that makes your next steps clear. My clients often tell me it feels like I just handed them an easy to follow roadmap of their next steps.

Fees and timing

$1500 USD for a 75,000 word book, with a fee worked out based on that for larger books. Payment plans available.

Takes four weeks for 75,000 words or less, and up to six weeks for longer manuscripts.

“I had been pitching and querying the novel to agents for about a year with only rejections. The proof of your service was in the full manuscript request I got after we started working together!”

— Robyn Neilsen, romantasy author

Developmental editing

Want to make sure your story’s bones are strong?

Developmental editing focuses on the big-picture structure of your book. I’ll look at plot, pacing, flow, character arcs, world building, and emotional impact.

What’s included

Every developmental edit comes with two powerful elements.

A detailed editorial letter — often 10+ pages — breaking down:

  • What’s working

  • Where the story wanders or sticks

  • Practical, teaching-rich strategies to strengthen pacing, plot, and character arcs

  • Encouraging reminders of your strengths, because they matter, too

  • Warm, practical guidance on how to tackle your edits in.a way that works for your brain

Think of it as your personalised story map, crafted by a co-conspirator who fiercely believes in your voice.

And inline comments throughout your manuscript, packed with practical feedback, thought provoking questions, and supportive nudges to help you revise with confidence.

A developmental edit is perfect when you’ve got a full draft and you want someone to dive deep onto every page and help you shape your book into the best version of itself. You’re less focused on sentence-level polish, and more interested in whether the story truly works.

Fees and timing

$0.05 - $0.06 per word. Payment plans available.

Takes 4 - 8 weeks depending on the amount of work needed (based on 80,000 words)

Line editing

Want your prose to shine without losing your voice?

Line editing focuses on the sentence level: tightening flow, improving clarity, and making sure every line feels like you, only stronger.

What’s included

Every line edit includes two story-shaping elements.

Thoughtful, strategic tweaks throughout your manuscript to refine:

  • Word choice, rhythm, and flow

  • Clunky or confusing sentences

  • Repetition, pacing, and tone

  • Reader experience — how the writing feels as they move through it

A detailed editorial letter outlining:

  • What’s working beautifully

  • Any patterns or habits to watch for

  • Clear, kind suggestions to sharpen your style and voice

Think of your letter as confidence-boosting guide to levelling up your prose without losing your spark..

A line edit is ideal when your story structure is solid, and you’re ready to elevate the language. Line editing makes sure your prose sings, sparkles, or stabs (in all the right places).

Fees and timing

$0.035 - $0.045 per word. Payment plans available.

Takes 2.5 - 6 weeks depending on the amount of work needed (based on 80,000 words)

“The bits of feedback you sent throughout the read always made my day. I'm so glad I took the plunge and sent my project to you. Considering hiring Fae? Do it! Especially as a nervous, new, neuro-diverse writer.”

— Alison Irwin, equestrian romance author

Not sure what kind of word witchery your book needs?

That’s okay. You don’t need to have all the answers right now. Send me a message and we’ll figure out what kind of support will serve you best.

✨ Your story matters. Let's find the way forward together.

Looking for a more intensive collaboration or ghostwriting support? I occasionally take on bespoke projects. You’re welcome to ask.

Frequently asked questions

  • I recommend reaching out at least 4–6 weeks in advance, especially for full edits or longer coaching containers. My calendar fills fast, and I want to make sure there’s plenty of time to plan your project with care.

That said, you’re always welcome to check availability. If I have space sooner (or a cancellation), I’ll let you know.

  • I occasionally take on rush projects if the timing and fit are right. Get in touch and let me know your deadline, and I’ll see if there’s a slot with your name on it.

  • Not for every service. Sample edits work well for line edits, and I’m always happy to offer up to 750 words to see if my style is a good fit for you.

Sample edits aren’t possible for manuscript assessments or developmental edits as those rely on seeing the full book in context to be truly helpful.

However, if you're considering a developmental edit and would like to get a feel for my feedback style, I offer a short “tone check”, a light pass on 750 words to show you the kind of comments and insights I typically offer. It’s not a true sample edit, but it can help you decide if my approach works for you.

Just reach out if you’d like to book one.

  • Occasionally! While fiction is my main focus, I sometimes work with nonfiction authors if the topic fits my skills and we vibe well. If you think we’d be a match, feel free to reach out.

  • Encouraging, honest, and deeply practical. I’ll tell you what’s not working, and exactly how to make it better. But just as importantly, I’ll highlight what is working, so you can keep doing more of that. I believe in editing that builds confidence, not fear. Your story already has gold in it. I help bring it to the surface and polish it until it shines.

  • I work with Google Docs or MS Word. I don’t accept any other formats.

  • No and no. I don’t use AI to edit, and I don’t work with manuscripts generated by AI tools.

Please note this applies to Generative AI. If you’ve used ProWritingAid, or Grammarly, that’s no problem.

  • Payments are handled via Bonsai. it’s a secure, easy-to-use system that accepts most major credit and debit cards.

To book your slot, I require a non-refundable 50% deposit. The remaining balance can be split into manageable instalments, depending on the project.

  • Not at all. I work with both indie authors and those seeking traditional representation, especially through book coaching and manuscript assessments. Whether you’re planning to self-publish or prepare for querying, my support will match your goals.

  • That depends on the project. If your book is fully drafted and just needs polishing, yes, we can work in sections, with a minimum word count per block to keep feedback cohesive.

If you’re still drafting, a mix of coaching and light editing might be a better fit. Some of my clients start with a partial manuscript and a coaching call, then decide whether to move forward with editing, coaching, or a combination of both as they write. I’m happy to help you figure out what makes the most sense for where you are.
